Holiday Reading Challenge Week 2 Day 4 Bonus Activity

Today I did the bonus activity for the fourth day of the second week, for it I had to continue a story from a point that it was started off at.

One day you are walking along the deck of the ship when you hear a loud bang. You start to run as you see smoke coming from the far end of the ship. You run towards the room where your patients are waiting to receive treatment from the doctor. Just as you arrive at the door to their room you hear another loud bang and you…

One day you are walking along the deck of the ship when you hear a loud bang. You start to run as you see smoke coming from the far end of the ship. You run towards the room where your patients are waiting to receive treatment from the doctor. Just as you arrive at the door to their room you hear another loud bang and you quickly rush towards the area that the smoke is emerging from, while there you see other nurses rushing towards the scene as well. The reason being because there is a hole in the boat and people are frantically trying to leave the ship, they're jumping off the boats just to try and escape but not before checking to see if they're going to jump into oil that's in the water. You take one last look back at the smouldering remains of the boat and then close my eyes and jump.

Many hours later you come to your senses with several others looking at you, it seems that you're in one of the lifeboats. One other passenger says "You've had quite the head knock, just before you landed a piece of the ship broke and travelled far enough for you to knock your head on it." And with that you fall asleep only to wake on a destroyer later on, you then sail back to England and after a short time's rest you board another medical ship set to sail to Dunkirk.

Holiday Reading Challenge Week 2 Day 4 Activity 2

Today I did the second activity of the fourth day in the second week, for it I had to read about one person who got the Victorian cross and then write down some information about them.

I chose to research someone called John Grant from Hawera who, before the war was a builder. He earned the Victorian cross because when his battalion attacked German machine gun positions him and another soldier rushed the guns by leaping into the centre and destroying it, he repeated this process again with another machine gun post.

Holiday Reading Challenge Week 2 Day 4 Activity 1

Today I did the first activity of the fourth day for week two, for it I had to go to this timeline and take two events and then write them both down below with all of the names of the people involved.

  • 1 September: Germany invades Poland
When that happened it basically started the world war because Poland is under the British rule, that also meant that when Britain declared war all of the other countries under it had to follow on.

  • 30 April: Hitler commits suicide
That marked the beginning of the end because without their leader the central powers crumbled quickly although they were already starting to fall before Hitler's death.

Holiday Reading Challenge Week 2 Day 3 Bonus Activity

Today I did the bonus activity for the second day of the second week, for it I had to pretend that I could bring some gifts to my ancestors in the 1930s and say what I'd bring them from the present.

I'd bring them some Favourites and Milo so then they'd have something to eat and drink.

Holiday Reading Challenge Week 2 Day 3 Activity 2

Today I did the second activity for the third day of the second week, for it I had to say what I'd do to fund raise for families in the 1930s that had barely any money.

1. Collect useful items that were thrown away and sell them.
2. Doing jobs for people (Cleaning cars, washing windows etc)
3. Reuse items for other purposes (eg; Empty container for water)

Holiday Reading Challenge Week 2 Day 3 Activity 1

Today I did the first activity for the third day of the second week, for it I had to say what I do if I'm stressed.

When I'm stressed I either play a computer game or read a book, I do those because I like to do them and if I beat the game or I find a really good book and start to read it I feel a lot better.

Holiday Reading Challenge Week 2 Day 2 Bonus Activity

Today I did the bonus activity for the second day of the second week, for it I had to write a poem about what I would feel like if I was a passenger on the plane called Southern Cross when its radio stopped working and the pilot couldn't see anything.

I am scared, the cold is feared.
I can't see a light, not one to help our plight.
When I boarded this flight I thought it would be a magnificent sight, to see all of the land below.
Although I am stranded in a few hours we will have landed.

Holiday Reading Challenge Week 2 Day 2 Activity 2

Today I did the second activity of the second day of the second week, for it I had to rate a picture out of five with an explanation as to why I chose to rate it that way.

I'd rate it 4/5 stars because it doesn't look that interesting but it still might have a backstory because it's supposed to be a self portrait.

Holiday Reading Challenge Day 3 Bonus Activity

Today I did the bonus activity for day three, for it I had to ask three people of my family to tell me two fun facts about them.

Daniel:
1: He likes playing games.
2: Likes doing things with friends.
Thomas:
1: He's bad at playing computer games.
2: He's good at annoying people.
Mum:
1: Likes outdoor activities.
2: Likes listening to music.

Holiday Reading Challenge Week 2 Day 2 Activity 1

Today I did the first activity for the second day of the second week, for it I had to watch a movie trailer for a film called Gold Rush which was a silent film that had absolutely no talking and also say whether or not I would enjoy watching the whole movie.

I would watch the movie because it looks like it'd be funny even though it won't have any sound, I'd also watch it because I haven't seen any old movies like that before.
Link To Trailer.

Holiday Reading Challenge Week 2 Day 1 Bonus Activity

Today I did the bonus activity for the second day of the second week, for it I had to read this poem and then say if I liked it and also say how it made me feel.

I liked it a lot because at the end of almost every sentence there was a rhyme, when I read it I felt proud because it said how brave people were fighting and dying for their country.

Holiday Reading Challenge Week 2 Day 1 Activity 2

Today I did the second activity for the first day of the second week, for it I had to voice my opinion on whether or not I thought that it was fair that women weren't allowed to vote in Saudi Arabia until 2015.

I think that it wasn't fair that women weren't allowed to vote until recently and even then, the rulers probably only changed it because of the women protesting or other rulers from other countries encouraging them to allow the vote.

Holiday Reading Challenge Week 2 Day 1 Activity 1

Today I did the first activity of the first day for the second week of the summer learning journey, for it I had to find a cathedral that's in New Zealand, Write down when it was built, How long it took to build, the name of the cathedral, where it was built and I also had to add in a picture of it.
Image result for Holy Trinity CathedralPhoto by David Stanley, CC by 2.0
I found the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Auckland, Cnr St Stephens Ave & Parnell Rd, Parnell, Auckland 1052. The construction for it started in 1843 and ended in 1849, meaning that it took 6 years to build.

Holiday Reading Challenge Day 5 Bonus Activity

Today I did the day five bonus activity for the summer learning journey, for it I had to pretend to interview a man called Bill Kini who won a gold medal in the 1966 commonwealth games by writing four questions.

1. How long have you trained for?
2. Were you nervous when the match started?
3. How old were you when you took up boxing?
4. Who's your coach?

Holiday Reading Challenge Day 5 Activity 2

Today I did the second activity for day five of the summer learning journey, for it I had to read about a village and then say three things that are interesting about it.

1: You can bungy jump.
2: You can go rafting.
3: You can explore the caves.
Link to village site.

Holiday Reading Challenge Day 5 Activity 1

Today I did the first activity of day 5 for the summer learning journey, for it I had to translate some phrases from Maori to English and for others English to Maori.

Nau mai ki Aotearoa.
Welcome to New Zealand

____ is my name.
Ko toku ingoa

What is your name?
He aha to ingoa?

He pai taku ki te takaro i te whutupaoro.
I like to play rugby.

Where do you come from?
No hea koe?

Holiday Reading Challenge Day 4 Bonus Activity

Today I did the bonus activity for day 4 of the summer learning journey, for it I had to rate three videos of kapa haka from 1-3.

1: Number one because they were all singing and had good costumes.
2: Number two because they used musical instruments.
3: Number three because the men didn't do much aside from singing.

Holiday Reading Challenge Day 4 Activity 2

Today I did the second activity for day four of the summer learning journey, for it I had to read about some Maori games and then choose one of them. After that I had to say what the name of it was, the goal of the game and then two of its rules.

I chose Ki O Rahi because I have played it before.
Goal: score points by getting the ball or whatever object is used for the game, team with the most points in the end is the winner.
Rules:
1: If you're in the inside circle you have to use the bridge to get out.
2: You have to hit the barrel in the middle of the circles to get points after you go around tapping the sticks sticking out of the ground.

Holiday Reading Challenge Day 4 Activity 1

Today I did the first activity of day four for the summer learning journey, for it I had to find waiata and read the lyrics. After that I had to put the one that I thought was the best into say here and say why I liked it better than the others.

Video of waiata
I liked this one a lot because they use a guitar and harmonise together to sing the lyrics.

Holiday Reading Challenge Day 3 Activity 2

Today I did the second activity for day 3 of the summer learning journey, for it I had to use a template to create my own pepeha.

Ko Grady tōku iwi My tribe is Grady
Ko Panmure ahau I am from Panmure
Ko Nick rāua ko Emmy ōku mātua  My parents are Nick and Emmy
Ko Alex tōku ingoa. My name is Alex

Holiday Reading Challenge Day 3 Activity 1

Today I did the first activity of day 3 for the holiday reading challenge, for it I had to pretend that I was a sibling to 7-8 brothers/sisters and describe what life would be like eg; If I liked how there were so many children and why/why not.

I think that I wouldn't enjoy having a large family because even though I wouldn't have to do work everyday when it was my turn to do something I'd have to do a lot, an example would be doing the washing, although I wouldn't do it every week when it was my turn I'd still have a lot to do. I also wouldn't want to be part of a large family because there would be a lot of fights and rivalries, stuff the because there would be so many kids and only two parents wouldn't be stopped.

Holiday Reading Challenge Day 2 Bonus Activity

Today I did the bonus activity for day 2, for it I had to say what my favourite foods is as well as why.

My favourite food is pizza because I like the cheese and the cooked toppings together, I have no idea on how to make so I looked up a site and copied it down onto here.

Preheat oven and a baking sheet to 220C/fan 200C.

Mix strong bread flour, salt and fast-action yeast together in a large bowl. Quickly stir in lukewarm water and olive oil and bring together to a rough dough.

Tip out the mixture onto a lightly floured worksurface and knead for 5 mins until you have a smooth, springy dough.

Roll out into a thin round (you may have to stretch it with your hands a little) and place on a floured baking sheet.

Add your favourite toppings (such as tomato passata, mozzarella, vegetables or cured meats), place the floured sheet on top of the preheated sheet and bake for 10-15 mins, until the pizza is golden and crispy.

Holiday Reading Challenge Day 2 Activity 2

Today I did activity 2 of day 2 for the holiday reading challenge, for it I had to draw a picture of what I'd want to be when I grow up.

I'd want to be a policeman because then I could protect people and my family.

Holiday Reading Challenge Day 2 Activity 1

Today I did day 2 activity 1, for this activity I had to compare a Maori house to my house by having two similarities and two differences.

Similarities:

1: My house and the Maori house have a roof and walls.
2: My house and the Maori house have a door and windows.

Differences:

1: My house and the Maori house are different because a Maori house has carvings made out of wood all over it.
2: My house and the Maori house are different because the windows on the Maori house don't have glass fitted into the holes.

Holiday Reading Challenge Day 1 Bonus Activity

Today I did the third activity for day one, the bonus activity. For it I had to watch a video of people doing Waka Ama and then decide on whether or not I would like to do it one day.

I wouldn't want to do Waka Ama because it looks like it takes a lot on concentration and also a lot of teamwork, another reason would be that because the teams go so fast if I was in a team I'd slow them down a lot.

Holiday Reading Challenge Day 1 Activity 2

Today I did day one activity two of the Summer Learning Journey, for this task I had to pretend that I was one of the first people to find New Zealand by sending a letter to friend.

Dear friend, we finally landed onto the shore and I must admit... it is quite cold down here compared to our homeland. As soon as we'd landed everyone rushed to the shore and started to gather things to eat, some others set up the camp spot and the leftover ones went to get firewood. At night we heard some very strange sounds, it sounded just like a ghost was right above us but when one of the other tribesmen threw a rock up and hit something a bird fell down.
- From your friend, liking the new island but is slightly chilly.
PS: Can you reply as soon as possible?

Holiday Reading Challenge Day 1 Activity 1

Today I did the first activity of day 1 for the Summer Learning Journey, for it I had to read a story and after that I then had to find three interesting facts and write them down in here.

1: Maui's brothers wouldn't let Maui go fishing with them.
2: When is brothers didn't give Maui and bait he just punched himself in the nose and bled onto the jawbone/hook, he then threw the hook out to the sea and caught a giant fish
3: After Maui had caught the fish his brothers got greedy and started to chop it up, the holes and hills that were cut later turned into New Zealand's green grass and country side.

That's My Money

LI: To manage finances and profit.
This week for maths was the last week of the game that we were playing, in the end I managed to get $239, I think I could've gotten more if I didn't spend so much money on lotto tickets. In the beginning I used to do a lot of Prototec but after a while the prices for other things were bumped up so lots of people (Including me) started to do DLOs. There were lots more ways of making money rather than losing it, the DLOs gave $25 and if we did a Prototec at our level it would give us $4.

News Video

LI: to use a range of comprehension strategies to go deeper into a text.
This week for reading I had to get into a group, in that group my group members and I had to try and do a news video. We first had to find a bit of news to report on, after that we had to write our scripts and then we had to try and video all of us saying our scripts. I chose to do weather, Joseph did sport, Julian did entertainment, Chris did international and Fau was our actress.

Thursday 14 December 2017

Zombie Apocalypse Scenario

LI: to make generalisations about the impact of a group in our community.
This week for inquiry we had to choose one of three scenarios for after a zombie apocalypse, one was that the government was all gone, another that had all of the food gone and one more that had all of the medical supplies gone. I chose the medical supplies being gone because without a government it would be chaos and if there was no food lots of people would die, but for there being no medical supplies more solutions can be found as well as less people dying.

Can Do

This week for my can do slot I did tables test, for this website you have to answer times tables questions and depending on how long it took for you to do as well as what level you chose to do would earn you a certain amount of points.

Commenting

This week for my commenting must do I commented on Jack's blog post. Link to blog post - Link to blog.

Other

This week for my other slot I chose to do free rice, for this you have to answer questions on a variety of subjects and for every question answered 10 grains of rice are donated to fight world hunger. I managed to answer 50 questions correctly.

Kiwi Sport

This week at Kiwi Sport we learnt a new show off move, for it we had to place the shuttlecock on the racket and then try to turn the racket the other way around without dropping the shuttlecock onto the ground. We also played octopus and did some singles and doubles ins and outs.

The Night Before Christmas Poem Remake

LI: To recreate a famous poem.
This week for writing we had to do a remake of The Night Before Christmas, it could have a kiwi style to it as well as a personal aspect. The poems didn't need to be that long so mine is short because I couldn't really find that many more syllables or rhyming words to kind of match the original.

‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not an item was
stirring, not even Mum’s blouse. The socks were stuck right under the door,
just to keep
Santa's gumboots off of the floor.

The children were nestled with a bug in their beds,
while visions of presents flowed through their heads;
And Mum hopped into her Pj’s and me in mine,
whilst Dad had just settled down for some wine.

When out in the bush I heard a little bang, I sprang from my bed just like an orangatang.
Off to the window I leapt in a flash, opened up the locks and threw the curtains with
a bash.
It turned out to be a man in gumboots running across the lawn, with a bag on his back
and sheep by his side, he winked at me and increased his stride.
I then fell fast asleep, from some magical spell, but I’m sure that I heard him say
one more line as loud as a bell;
HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!

Tables Test

This week for my can do slot I chose to do tables test, for this website you have to answer questions on random times tables, you can change it to specific times table but the default is random. For every question answered you get a certain amount of points - depending on how long it took for you to find the answer and what level of difficulty you chose.

Free Rice

This week for my other slot I chose to do free rice, for this website you have to answer questions on a variety of topics and for every question answered ten grains of rice are donated to fight world hunger.

Kiwi Sport

This week at Kiwi Sport we played a warm up game, did rallies and had one vs ones and two vs twos. The warm up game we played was stuck in the mud, for it the two taggers had to go around tagging everyone and if someone was tagged they'd have to stay in the spot until someone set them free. For the rallies I partnered up with Jack and together we turned it into a see who can hit it further contest. When we did the two vs twos I partnered up with Jack again and together we managed to win most of our games.

Commenting

This week for my commenting must do I commented on Jack's blog.

Kiwi Can

This week at Kiwi Can we learnt more about respect and played some games. For one game we had to form a circle while someone stood in the middle with a cone, that person then had to protect that cone by only using their hands and everyone else had to try and knock the cone down with a ball. The next game we played was one where we had to get into two teams and each team took turns chasing the other team inside a rectangle made from cones, the only rule for it was that we weren't allowed to move with the ball until later when they changed it to only two steps. The last game was also a team one, for it each team had to build a tower out of things provided. We then had to try and get a ball and with that ball we had to try and knock the other team's tower down.

Community Roles

LI: To classify personal relationships
This week for inquiry we had to choose one of the roles that we'd researched in the past few weeks, I chose librarian, builder and the army. We had to research them again but this time more thoroughly, we also had to answer two questions which were; How do they interact with each other and how do they interact with me and my family.

That's My Money

LI: To manage finances and profit.
This week for maths Mr Wong's groups are playing a game a lot like monopoly except with this game we had to do learning, for every task that we completed we would get a set amount of money also, like monopoly there were disasters and if we didn't buy insurance we would have to pay a random amount of money. The only thing with the insurance was that you had to pay for that too, even though we had to pay it was only a small amount which was way worth it if the disaster wheel landed on our name or landed on everyone. To start off with we were given $50 (It was all fake money) and we also had to pay income tax ($1) rent for where we sat (Table = $20). The prize for having the most amount of money by the end of the school year is chocolate because nobody else gave any ideas.

Newspaper Article

LI: To use a range of comprehension strategies to go deeper into a text.
This week for the reading must do people were split up into four different groups and had to create a newspaper article on a topic out of business, entertainment, sports, international news and nation news. I worked on entertainment with Sakina, Jayden did business, Chris and Joseph did sports, Aden did international and Peter did national news. We had to search for websites that had relevant information to our choice of topic, would be interesting to read and the date for the article that we rewrote was between a certain time.

Story Illustration

LI: to write and illustrate a narrative story.
This week for our writing must do Mr Ogilivie's groups had to get into a trio and write a story together there was one thing though, we cold only do one part on one of three pieces of paper. As you might've guessed most of the parts didn't flow with each other, therefore slight imperfections were in the stories. After the stories were we then had to write a final paragraph together and after that we had to illustrate the four parts of the chosen story, it was a rushed job because we had to sick with the story line meaning that we couldn't just invent the characters to look one way when on the story they were supposed to be far different. I was a group with Jack and Chris.

Friday 1 December 2017

Decide My Flip

LI: To design and conduct a statistical survey.
This week for maths Mr Wong's groups had to find a partner, in that pair we had to then spin a wheel and flip a coin 100 times each (To start off with it was 250 each). Once we'd done that everyone then had to put our results on a google sheet, once all of the results were on we then had to make pie graphs to show how much percentage each number of spins/flips each side of a coin got.

Kiwi Can

This week at Kiwi Can we were learning more about respect, we also played a role playing game where in groups we had to try and make a small play with only the items supplied. For the game my group Mojtaba, Aung Naing, Jack and Joseph made up some random scenes which were really weird and funny because of the way we did them.

Kiwi Sport

This week at Kiwi Sport we learnt a new move, played octopus and did rallies. The new move only worked if the opponent hit the shuttlecock close to the net because then we used our forehand and made the shuttlecock go down to the end of the opponent's side of the court. In octopus I managed to get into the last people left usually but I never managed to be one of the last two, the reason for that is because by then there weren't many gaps. In the rallies I somehow managed to beat a reasonable amount of people, mostly due to luck.

Commenting

This week for my commenting slot I chose to comment on jack's blog, the links to his post that I commented on and his actual blog site are here: Blog Post Blog Link

Tables Test

This week for my other slot I chose to do tables test, for this you have to click the box with the correct answer to the equation written above. For every question box you answer correctly and depending on what level of difficulty and how long you took to answer it you are awarded a certain amount of points.

Free Rice

This week for my can do slot I chose to do free rice, for this website you have to answer questions on a variety of different subjects and for every question you answer correctly ten grains of rice are donated to fight world hunger. I answered thirty questions.

Newspaper Article Remake

LI: to use a range of comprehension strategies to go deeper into a text.
This week for reading we had to replicate a newspaper article in our own words with any name for a newspaper as well as pictures if we wanted to. In our groups we had to choose a topic from Sports, International, National, Entertainment, Weather and another one that I forgot. I made my one on this article that I read saying that Australia is going to get a lot hotter. My topic that I chose was international.

Government Services Research

LI: To look at more than one information source when researching.

LI: To record facts in your own words
This week for inquiry we once again had to get into groups, find a pair in that group as well as choosing two of the six things available. For this week the topic was Government Services, the choices were Politicians, Councils, Mayors, Libraries, M.P.I (First slide will explain) and welfare. I partnered up with Karlos and together we did Politicians and M.I.P, we couldn't find any books in the library but we did find websites and facts that proved that the teacher facts were true.

Athletics Day

Today was Panmure Bridge School's annual athletics day, every year for one day the whole school gets to go outside and play all of these activities set up by teachers. There were 9 activities but I can only remember these ones: Egg and spoon race, long jump, basketball/netball shoot out and rob the nest. Before athletics day we were put in teams for our year groups, I was in team red and my team members were Aung Naing, Marieta and Joel. After every single activity was completed it was just in time for the lunch break, after the break everyone then had to go to the top field and the selected fast runners in year groups had to race each other for the inter school sprints. Next up, when every year group had raced and the top three had been selected the year 7 and 8's had to race the other genders of their year group as well as the other year group. They were doing that to see who could take the title of fastest runner in Panmure Bridge School.

Free Rice

This week for my other slot I chose to do free rice, for this you have to answer questions on your chosen subject. With every question answered ten grains of rice are donated to fight world hunger, I answered 30 questions meaning that I donated 300 grains.

Tables Test

This week for my can do slot I chose to do tables test, for this website you have to click the correct box with an answer to the equation, with every box correct depending on what level and the amount of time it took for you answer it you get a certain amount of points.

Kiwi Can

This week at Kiwi Can we played two games and learnt about how we can be respectful when we communicate with others, out topic for this term is respect. For the first game that we played we had to walk around and when a number was called out we had to get into mini groups to try and put the called number of feet into the hula hoops. So to play the second one we had to get into groups and in those groups we had to try and tag another group by tapping them with a bean bag, it was the same thing just the other way around on other matches.

Kiwi Sport

This week at Kiwi Sport we learnt a new serving technique, played a warm up game, did rallies with the new serve and played a mini tournament. The warm up game was infinite tag, where you basically go around tagging everyone and if the person that you tagged has tagged someone else before that formerly tagged person could stand up and run around tagging other people. The new serving technique was the forehand serve where we had to: Hold the shuttlecock like a cup and put the racket in a forehand grip on our racket side. For the rallies I partnered up with Aung Naing and we managed to get ten, and finally for the tournament Aung Naing and I had 4 wins and 2 losses.

Maths Probability

LI: to compare and contrast a probability test with a statistical survey.
This week for maths we had to do a survey of everyone in the class, the surveys were on which number people chose, for me it was what number they chose from 1-8. After I'd asked everyone in the class to choose a number I wrote the results for every number down in my maths book. I surveyed 51 people in the class and 15 chose eight, 14 chose seven, 8 chose six, 7 chose five, 3 chose four, 1 chose three, 2 chose two and one person chose the number one. I then tested how many of each number I could get by rolling an eight sided die 50 times, the results were; 4 on one, 7 on two, 9 on three, 9 on four, 3 on five, 2 on six, 8 on 7 and 8 on eight. The percentage for a number to be chosen was 0.16%.

Making Connections Reading Strategy

LI: To use a range of comprehension strategies to go deeper into a text.
This week's task was like the last week's one, we once again had to try and explain our chosen strategy in further detail. This week I just added a couple more slides that try to explain the different types of connections that you can make.

Fire Station Visit

Today LS1 and LS2 went and visited the Mt Wellington Fire Station, the juniors are going tomorrow. LS1 went earlier and came back a little after lunch time while LS2 went after lunch time. When we were there we were told lots of things about the hoses, firetrucks and equipment by the firefighters. Four lucky people in LS1 were even allowed to spray one of the hoses! The firefighters then showed us another one and let Mr Ogilvie have at go at it too, after that they showed us their final one which was a water cannon. They then proceeded to spray the practice building but after a while they turned it towards us so... let's just say that we were slightly wet when we were walking back to school.

The lucky four who got to spray the hose.

Spare firetrucks in case of emergency.
Giant water cannon.

Some of the equipment that they use.
More equipment.

Mr Ogilvie having a go at spraying the tower with the hose.

Even more equipment

Game Show Videos

LI to: convert the number of chances probability into the percentage of probability.
This week for maths we could get into partners or groups of three, in the groups or partners we had to create three game videos that had higher chances for one person and lower for the other. I grouped up with Jack and Julian, once we'd grouped up we then had to come up with an idea for our games that we would play. Our games took a long time to video and edit so we had to rush most of the scenes.

Speech Summary

This week for writing we had to get into our groups and choose which member was doing which speech out of ones said by: Nelson Mandela, Severn Suzuki, Malala Yousafzai, Matt Cutts, Graham Hill, Martin Luther King Jr and Emma Watson. I watched Emma Watson's speech about how in some places in the world women don't have the same rights as men, and how in some countries if they tried to go some places they would probably be killed. In my summary below I had a lot of space left over to I tried to make it look entertaining.

Police Visit

Today some policemen came and visited our school, some of them came in a helicopter while others came in police vehicles with dogs in the back. The first to arrive were the policemen in the helicopter and so before they left they told us some things about the helicopter and how it flies, they also told us about a camera that was on the helicopter which was worth 850,000 dollars. When the helicopter flew away the police officers in cars arrived soon later, they then brought out one of their dogs called Kahu. They also told us some facts but this time on Kahu, his owner and how police dogs start off. They even did a demonstration on how police dog commands work.

Kiwi Sport

This week at Kiwi Sport we learnt a new serve, did rallies and played stuck in the mud again. For the stuck in the mud game if you were tagged you then had to wait for someone to clap their hands together between your legs and smack you on the hand, most people were cheating and only clapped their hands together instead of doing both. The new serve was a backhand one, for it we had to pretend that the shuttlecock was a stinky sock so we pinched it and held it as far away from us as we could. When we'd done that we then had to hold our racket diagonally and our thumb had to be facing us. When we did the rallies we had to keep passing the shuttlecock back and forth for as long as we could.

Researching Occupations

This week for inquiry we were researching trades, we once again had to get into groups and then find partners. We could choose from public transport drivers, builders, electricians, plumbers, delivery drivers and food services. I partnered up with Mele and we chose to do delivery driver and plumber.

Kiwican

This week at Kiwican we played two games and talked about people we should respect. For the first game we had to walk around and if either Knights, Gentlemen or Horses was called out was had to either; Go on our hands and knees while our partner put their hand on our shoulder (or vice versa), stand side by side with our arms on our sides or just act like we're horses that are galloping next to each other. Also, for our other game we were split into two teams, the team that I was in had to flip cones onto their backs while the other team had to do the opposite. In the two matches that we played each team won one.

Making Connections

LI to: Use a range of comprehension strategies to go deeper into a text
This week for reading it was the same task as last week, just so some people could finish theirs and others could go back and edit. So basically for this task we had to try and replicate a comprehension strategy modelling book, we all had to add in examples and explanatory paragraphs. I also added in a few pictures just to make it better to look at.

Free Rice

This week for my other slot I chose to do free rice, for this you have to answer questions on either vocabulary, algebra, famous places and much more. For every question answered ten grains of rice are donated to fight world hunger although that begs the question, if they have that much rice and food why are they waiting for school children and other people to answer questions just to give the food to those in need?
